Information

This woodblock was originally engraved for an illustration to be used in the 'Dalziels' Bible Gallery' (pub. 1881). However, it was not included in the original book. It was ultimately published in 1894 in 'Art Pictures from the Old Testament,' a new version of the 'Bible Gallery' with an accompanying text and additional illustrations. The design on this wood block depicts a scene based on Leviticus, vi, 8-13. In this passage God tells Moses the correct way for his people to ask for attonement. This includes bringing an unblemished lamb from their flock to the priest. This will then be slaughtered and made into a 'burnt offering' on the altar.
