Information

Solomon's design for the illustration 'Hosannah' was engraved on this woodblock by the brothers Dalziel. It was engraved in reverse so that the final image would come out the right way round. The minute detail the brothers managed to engrave on this woodblock, such as the strings of the instrument, is testament to their skill. They were very highly thought of in their own time and were considered the leading wood engravers of the 1860s.
