A preliminary drawing for Hunt's illustration to Mrs Getty's tale,' Active and Passive' published in Parables from Nature (1861). The figures here are an old fisherman with a telescope under his arm examining a sundial ina churchyard, and bottom left a sexton 'who with his mattock over his shoulder, was passing back on his way home'.
