Information

This design for Hope or Spes does not alter from the mid-1860s, and that includes the various media used by Burne-Jones. He omits the wings and halo, as well as the trampled figure in both the 1872 watercolour (Private collection) and 1896 oil painting (Boston Museum of Fine Arts). The figure remains the same with these few alterations as well as the length of the woman's hair. This design was also used in St Edburg Church, Bicester, Oxfordshire.
