This wood-engraved illustration, executed by Joseph Swain, accompanied 'The Anglers of the Dove', a serialised story by Harriet Martineau:The party sat down to sort their prey. The finest were taken charge of by Sampson, who marched off with the pannier on his shoulder. The gentlemen amused themselves with stringing the rest on birch twigs and long rushes. The illustration appeared in the periodical 'Once a Week' (26 July 1862, p. 113).
