This is the proof of an illustration of Christ rising from the tomb. It was published in the popular magazine 'Good Words' in September 1864 and engraved by Joseph Swain, one of the nineteenth century's leading wood engravers. Hughes produced many illustrations but this is the only one in the Birmingham collection.
