As described by Bronhkurst, these chairs,'...not only display Hunt's talent as an applied artist but encapsulate in three-dimensional form his commitment to orientalism'. Hunt described the design as based upon 'an Egyptian stool in the British Museum'. In the end Hunt related his design to various ancient Egyptian chairs that he had seen, including the celebrated Thebes stool, which Crace & Son then made.
