The Flower Book - Flame Heath1905 Accession number: 1953P5.19 Colour facsimile. Collotype print. InformationA page from the facsimile edition of Burne-Jones' Flower Book, one of 38 watercolour designs reproduced by Henri Piazza et Cie, for the Fine Art Society, London in 1905.Uerscheln identifies the flower as heather (Erica), but there is also a plant with a common name of 'flame heath' (Astroloma conostephiodes). Whilst Brynhild does not feature in any of Burne-Jones's other major works, her composition here is identical to the Sleeping Princess in the 'Rose Bower' panel of two of Burne-Jones's many 'Sleeping Beauty/Briar Rose' paintings ('Rose Bower', Series II, 'Briar Rose', Faringdon Collection, Buscot Park, Berkshire, 1870-90; and 'Sleeping Beauty', Collection of Lord Lloyd Webber, 1886-88).
