Information

A study of a Cairo street used by Hunt in both of his painted versons of 'The Lantern-Maker's Courtship'. The artist wrote to William Kenrick, the owner of the exhibited oil, on 5 December 1906: 'In recently looking over my sketches and drawings no remains existed of any pencil or pen-and-ink experiments of the design I had made for this subject' (Birmingham museum files).
