From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'.This study is closer to the final conception then the other studies in Birmingham's collection. In the final wood engraving, the smoking altars and the statue in the niche on the right are omitted, and two figures are added on the extreme right.
