Pygmalion and the Image - Study for Pygmalion and Galatea offering Incense at the Altar of Hymen1867 Accession number: 1927P632 Pencil on tracing paper. Width: 80 mm Height: 114 mm InformationThis study is also known as 'The Altar of Hymen', in Morris's verse from 'The Earthly Paradise' this scene is not recounted explicitly, but rather hinted at through Galatea's own words. It shows the marriage of Pygmalion and Galatea. It can be surmised that the event depicted precedes that in 1926P630-631, only because the incense has not been offered in this study, whilst in the other two, the flames are rising.
