A study for the figure of Psyche for the story of 'Cupid and Psyche' from William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'. She is in the same pose as in 1927P648.16, a trial illustration for 'Cupid & Psyche'. The pose is reminiscent of Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres's 'La Source'. See also 1904P124 a study for 'Psyche arising from Cupid's Bed'.This drawing for the 'Cupid & Psyche' series was later copied and slightly modified in 1876 by Rossetti in his drawing of 'The Spirit of the Rainbow' (Private Collection).
