Information

This design differs from other treatments of the subject Burne-Jones designed throughout his career, most especially the windows at Speldhurst and Gateacre that feature Christ Blessing the Children. A thorough examination of this design, in conjunction with John Christian, reveals that the draughtsmanship of this design, as well as that on the reverse, is typical of Burne-Jones in the late 1860s and other than the subject matter, has no connection with the drawing of the same subject, also in Birmingham's collection.
