Information

A study for one seven unrealised designs intended for Dalziels' Bible Gallery, illustrations from the old testament from original drawings by various artists. Commissioned in 1863, the bible was published by George Routledge & Sons, London, 1881. Drapery and hand study of center angel from the 'Days of Creation'. Labelled, by the artist, 'II' in the upper right hand corner, which may indicate that this was a study for the Second Day, featuring two angels in the panel, hence the two body types with differing drapery. The Days of Creation series are in the Collection of the Fogg Art Museum Harvard University (except Day Four, which was stolen in 1974).
