Information

Betty Elzea has identified this portrait of Margaret of Denmark, wife of James III of Scotland, as a copy of an illustration in Henry Shaw's 'Dresses and Decorations of the Middle Ages' (pub. 1843) ('Frederick Sandys 1829-1904: A Catalogue Raisonné,' p. 142). The original portrait is one of the four Trinity Altar panels by Hugo van der Goes (1848, oil on panel, Royal Collection).
