Copy of a Knight and his Lady1850 – 1859 Accession number: 1927P393 Pen and brown ink on tracing paper. Width: 158 mm Height: 236 mm InformationThese studies appear to be drawings of tomb effigies. It seems most likely that they were copied from a nineteenth-century sourcebook of effigies, possibly Charles Stothard's 'Monumental Effigies of Great Britain' (first pub 1817) which included multiple views of effigies to aid artists in their quest for accurate costume. Elzea sites the source as possibly J S Cotman. Formerly attributed to Ford Madox Brown.
