A rough sketch of the Virgin lying on a couch inside the stable, the Christ Child beside her in a manger. St. Joseph is seated on the ground in the front. Around and above are numerous figures, apparently of angels. This is most likely a study for the centre panel of 'The Nativity Triptych', now at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.
