Width: 133 mm Height: 178 mm InformationThe subject of this wood engraving is taken from the Old Testament story of the prophet Ezekiel and the boiling pot (Ezekiel, chapters 16-24). Burne-Jones began making designs for the project in 1863, and several studies and sketches of this are in the collection of the Tate Britain.There is also one study for the design (on the reverse of 1927P511) in the Birmingham collection as well as another copy of the Dalziels' Bible Gallery (1920P713.2.68), and the original woodblock itself (2006.1040.68). A print for Dalziels' Bible Gallery, illustrations from the old testament from original drawings by various artists including Ford Madox Brown, Edward Burne-Jones, William Holman Hunt, Frederick Leighton, Frederick Sandys, George Frederick Watts and Simeon Solomon. Commissioned in 1863, the bible was published by George Routledge & Sons, London, 1881.
