Information

These two figures are similar to the two main figures in Wallis's Royal Academy exhibit of 1873, 'A Despatch from Trebizond', illustrating a scene from Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice' with two men seated on a marble bench in the Piazzetta near St Mark's. The painting was subsequently engraved. .
