Information

The style and alpine subject matter of this undated pencil and watercolour sketch suggests it may have been executed around the same time as the 'Alpine Scene' (1916P14), also in the Birmingham collection. In both Ruskin has used loose pencil shading under the watercolour to add shading and depth. By comparing these two works to others of similar subject it seems that they are likely to have been executed in the mid to late 1840s but the exact date is unknown.
