Bhanavar the Beautiful - Study of Female Nude1864 Accession number: 1906P866 Red chalk touched with white and black on grey paper. Width: 264 mm Height: 397 mm InformationThis is a study for the watercolour 'Bhanavar the Beautiful,' the frontispiece to George Meredith's popular novel 'The Shaving of Shagpat' (pub.1862). Sandys appears to have made the study using a professional model. Having captured the model full length he then concentrated on drawing her arms on spare sections of the paper.
