Information

This is a study for a design which was ultimately published in the 'Dalziels' Bible Gallery' (1881). Like many of the artists involved in the project Sandys seems to have begun working on the design around 1865. The pose of this figure suggests that this is an early study for Jacob. In the final version Jacob kneels on only one knee with his head tilted further to one side.
