Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery Pre-Raphaelite Online Resource : The Collection

This study of ivy was used in the background of a portrait of Sandys' patron, the Norfolk clergyman Rev James Bulwer (now in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa). Betty Elzea has dated this drawing to 1858, one of two studies of ivy on a wall for the background of the Bulwer oil painting.
