Wycliffe Reading his Translation of the Bible - Nude Study for Wycliffe1847 Accession number: 1906P730 Pencil on paper. Width: 104 mm Height: 253 mm InformationAlthough this drawing depicts a young man in the finished work John Wycliffe (d.1384) is an elderly figure. The discrepancy between the man depicted here and the final figure reveals Brown's use of professional nude models to help him find the correct pose of a figure before adding clothes. The model for the nude drawing is likely to be a man named 'Garret' who Brown records in his diary as having posed for 'sketches of Wycliff' on 20 December 1847.LM
