Information

A tracing for the illustration 'The Sailor's Bride' published in 'Once a Week,' (13 April, 1861, vol. 4, p. 434) to accompany a poem of the same name by Marian E. James. The design was initially engraved by W. H. Hooper but Sandys was not satisfied with the reults and it was ultimately engraved by Joseph Swain. This tracing is likely to have been used to aid Sandys in transferring his design onto a woodblock ready for engraving.
