Width: 149 mm Height: 312 mm InformationA sketch for the third painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey. This scene refers to the Princess drawing the fatal lot labelled 'Moritura' (She who shall die). This study was not used in the final version where the Princess faces three-quarters to the right, and is in the act of taking the slip of paper marked 'Moritura'. The 1865 finished drawing is in the collection of the British Museum, and the 1866 oil painting is in the collection of Hanover College, Indiana.
