This scene refers to the Princess drawing the fatal lot labelled 'Moritura' (She who shall die). This figure does not appear in the finished painting. The 1865 finished drawing is in the collection of the British Museum, and the 1866 oil painting is in the collection of Hanover College, Indiana.
