Sketch of the Virgin for the watercolour of 'The Annunciation' dated 1855 (sold Christies 11/7/1972, lot 46). This aoppears to be a sketch from a life model, with the faintly drawn hands indicating that the Virgin is washing some clothes. See also the earlier representation of the annunciation in the painting 'Ecce Ancilla Domini ' of 1850 in Tate.
