This study is for a figure in Rossetti's large ink drawing Mary Magdalen at the Door of Simon the Pharisee (1858-59, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge). The figure is the young beggar girl with a porringer seated at the foot on the steps on the bottom left of the finished drawing and is largely unchanged.
