Information

One of four studies in Birmingham's collection for the figure on the right in the watercolour 'The Lament' (1865-66), William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow. The subject marks a development, like Burne-Jones's 'Green Summer' (1864 and 1866) and 'Chant d'Amour' (1865, 1866 and 1868-77), which also have no specific subject and are purified Aesthetic pieces.
