Information

Birmingham's collection has over 100 preparatory drawings by Burne-Jones based on the legend of Cupid and Psyche. This is one of five drapery studies for the figure of Psyche that appear to be for the scene of 'Cupid Delivering Psyche' from 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'. This appears to be closest to the final composition of 'Cupid Delivering Psyche', taken from William Morris' poem, 'The Earthly Paradise'.
