Cupid delivering Psyche - Drapery Study for Psyche1865 – 1866 Accession number: 1904P198 Black and white chalks on brown paper. Width: 176 mm Height: 297 mm InformationBirmingham's collection has over 100 preparatory drawings by Burne-Jones based on the legend of Cupid and Psyche. This is one of five drapery studies for the figure of Psyche that appear to be for the scene of 'Cupid Delivering Psyche' from 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'. On the reverse is a very slight, and almost indecipherable sketch, in black chalk. It is of a kneeling female, and may be connected with the figure of Princess Sabra in the 'St. George' Series, also executed at the same time as the drawing on the recto.
