This is one of an edition 200.The painting from which this photogravure was taken is in Birmingham's collection This photogravure is taken from the watercolour version of 'The Backgammon Players', part of BMAG's collection (1923P146), dating from 1861-62. In 1861, Burne-Jones created a completed drawing of the same subject, much more detailed and deftly handled than the watercolour, now in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. He also used the subject again, painting in oil on leather, for the doors of a cabinet executed by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
