Myles Birket Foster

Date of birth: 1825 — Date of death: 1899

Apprenticed at the age of 16 to a wood engraver in London. Foster taught himself to paint in watercolour and quickly became successful. He was friends with Edward Burne-Jones (1833-98) and William Morris (1834-96), who decorated his new house 'The Hill' in Witley, Surrey in the mid 1860's.
