Poet. Son of Captain Byron and his second wife, Catherine Gordon of Gight, Aberdeen, George Gordon became heir to the barony in 1798. He entered Harrow School in 1801, Trinity College, Cambridge in 1805, and the House of Lords in 1809. Byron produced a series of oriental prose romances inspired by his undertaking of the Grand Tour such as The Bride of Abydos (1813), from which 'the Byronic hero' emerged. .
