Fanny Cornforth

Model. Daughter of William Cox and Jane Woolgar. Cornforth met Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882) in 1856 and became his muse and intermittent companion. Through Rossetti, Cornforth met a variety of artists including Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898). She married Timothy Hughes in 1860 but remained close to Rossetti. Rossetti provided Cornforth with financial assistance throughout his life. Following his death, Cornforth and her second husband, John Bernard Schott (1837-1891), opened the Rossetti Gallery in Bond Street, London.
