Dalziels' Bible Gallery - The First offering of Aaron1862 Accession number: 2006.1040.6 Engraved boxwood block. Width: 183 mm Height: 143 mm Depth: 23 mm InformationThis woodblock was originally engraved for an illustration to be used in the 'Dalziels' Bible Gallery' (pub. 1881). However, it was not included in the original book. It was ultimately published in 1894 in 'Art Pictures from the Old Testament,' a new version of the 'Bible Gallery' with an accompanying text and additional illustrations. The design on this woodblock depicts a scene based on Leviticus IX. In this passage Aaaron is ordered my Moses to make several offerings to God. He can be seen on the left of this woodblock accepting the various animals that are needed for the ceremony, including a bull and a young ram.
