Width: 222 mm Height: 273 mm InformationThe top study is taken from Viollet's 'Dictionnaire Raisonne', volume 3, page 157, figure 2, and is a study of the shoe of a 9th century nobleman. That in the centre right is a copy of a gentleman's shoe of 1240, from Viollet, volume 3, page 161, figure 8. The centre left study is from Viollet, volume 4, page 339, figure 7B. The drawing in the centre of the page is a shoe from an 11th century nobleman which is ornamented with pearls, and is from Viollet, volume 3, page 158, figure 5. The lower left study is from Viollet volume 4, page 340, figure 8, and is a shoe from the end of the 15th century. The stole is based on the one owned by Thomas Becket.
