Sketchbook - The Perseus Series - Nude Study of Perseus in Perseus Slaying the Sea-Monster1875 Accession number: 1952P5.5 Pencil on paper. Width: 183 mm Height: 255 mm InformationOne of several studies in Birmingham's Collection for the Perseus Series of paintings (Series I is now in the Stattsgalerie, Stuttgart; Series II in the Southampton City Art Gallery). The particular composition in which this study was used in both the final versions and is often referred to as 'The Doom Fulfilled', rather than 'Perseus Slaying the Sea-Monster' or 'Sea-Serpent'. There is only a slight difference between the figure in this study and that of Perseus in the paintings, his left leg is bent and raised higher.
