Cupid and Psyche - Sketch of Psyche1865 Accession number: 1927P648.16 Pencil on paper. Bound. Width: 70 mm Height: 113 mm InformationFrom a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'. This subject does not appear to have been cut as a woodblock by Morris, although a block does appear in the 1935 'Eros and Psyche' based on the finished drawing by Burne-Jones in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The pose, close to that of the 'Cnidian Aphrodite' (Vatican Museum) was used in preference to 1927P648.17.
