A study for the final painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey.One of thirteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. The image verso, is titled upside down. It is a study for St. George's right arm holding the sword as it rests on his right shoulder, exactly as it appears in the final painting. The final painting is now in the collection of Bristol City Art Gallery.
