Chaucer at the Court of Edward III - Drapery Study for Edward III with Outline of a Child1847 Accession number: 1906P779 Black chalk on paper. Width: 175 mm Height: 270 mm InformationThe lack of hands in this drapery study for Edward III strongly suggests that Brown was working from a lay figure. He has included the outlines of the side of the throne and the figure of a child on the right. In the final painting his cloak has a chest fastening, and instead of having his hands in his lap he holds a cloth in one hand and the edge of the throne in the other.LM
