Information

This tracing has been copied from an illustration in J. Jackson and W. A. Chatto's 'Treatise on Wood Engraving: Historical and Practical' which was first published in 1839 by Charles Knight (p. 468). The orignal source for the illustration was Marcolini's 'Sorti' published in 1540.

Provenance

Almost certainly to have been acquired by Charles Fairfax Murray from the artist, or from the sale of the contents of the Sandys family home after the death of Sandys' mother in September 1883 (Elzea).
