Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery will stage a major exhibition of Pre-Raphaelite works of art early next year. The exhibition ‘The Poetry of Drawing: Pre-Raphaelite Designs, Studies and Watercolours’ will take place 29 January 2011 – 15 May 2011 in the Gas Hall.

This exciting exhibition will be the most comprehensive survey of Pre-Raphaelite drawings and watercolours ever staged. It brings together rarely-seen works from Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s world-class collections alongside key loans from public and private lenders.

The exhibition explores the role of drawing and design in the work of the Pre-Raphaelites, their associates and followers. It displays drawings and watercolours alongside related objects from the applied art collections. The exhibition will include works of art by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Arthur Hughes and Edward Burne-Jones which have never been exhibited before.

This will be a fee paying exhibition. I will update the website with information on ticket prices and how to buy tickets as soon as this is available.

I have amended this post as it previously said that the exhibition was to start in October this year, but it will now start in January 2011. I am sorry that this means a longer wait, but I am sure it will be worth it!
