William Holman Hunt, one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, died 100 years ago on 7 September 1910. To mark his centenary, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery art curators will be giving an informal introduction to some of Hunt’s most famous paintings and a study day will explore his work and its contexts.

Reframing Holman Hunt Study Day

The Reframing Holman Hunt Study Day will take place at Birmingham and Midland Institute on Saturday 6 November 2010 between 10.30am – 4.45pm. Jointly organised by Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Birmingham and Midland Institute and the Art Fund, this study day will examine aspects of Hunt’s life and career.

The papers will explore Hunt’s frames, his connections with Orientalism, his religious painting, and his relationship with his studio assistant and ‘son in art’ Edward Robert Hughes. The speakers for the day are Judith Bronkhurst, Nicholas Tromans, Michael Wheeler and Victoria Osborne.
